Conversations about masculinity may pay less attention to masculinities, plural, but research finds that social conceptions of masculinity vary among cultures and time periods. Riane Eisler looks at many of these cultures in her research of dominator vs partnership systems, and Jed Diamond studies related health outcomes among men.

How do men contribute based on differing capabilities, interests, strengths, and voices? What does it mean to be powerful?

Many leaders and team members may hold back from fully addressing unproductive power patterns because of lack of awareness, discomfort, or not knowing how to intervene. Are there pressures that keep some men from speaking up? This affects productivity and profitability, costing businesses money.

Research finds that workplace bullying and unproductive power patterns lead to higher employee turnover, low morale, and reduced productivity, all of which affect business profitability. These power patterns also have distressing psychological and health impacts on those targeted as well as to employee bystanders who witness overt or subtle bullying, whisper campaigns, microaggressions, and other forms of exclusion. Given the prevalence of these patterns in many walks of life, even positive, healthy work cultures can be susceptible.

Benefits:

  • Identify early signs of unhealthy power patterns within your organization.

  • Describe different ways to step up or take action based on “responder” type (4 types).

  • Learn how assessments and alignment processes map power patterns and offer insight about next best steps.

  • Strategize personal and organizational measures to address these patterns and rebuild positive work relationships.

  • Increase productivity and profitability.

  • Attract and retain great people.

Join us for a discussion about masculinities, true courage, and power. Learn more about the different ways to strengthen responses, step up powerfully, and encourage others to do the same. All people are welcome.
